3D Illustration

This is a personal project of mine, involving the creation of 3D illustrations of liminal space artwork for a band called Catwalkmotion (an electronic indie-pop band). The artwork was created for their single titled Do We Have to Grow?

Concept & Exploration

The illustration concept and reference were based on liminal space: an empty, often abandoned-looking room that feels familiar yet disconnected from reality (a concept that had become an internet trend at the time). To make it more relatable, I chose a reference that represents a typical Indonesian bedroom. The cake symbolizes the transition from teen to adult, evoking the realization that growing up comes with responsibilities, which can feel overwhelming. Below are some of my initial artwork explorations, focusing on color and ambiance.

Concept & Exploration

The concept is based on liminal spaces: empty rooms that feel familiar but disconnected from reality. To make it relatable, I used an Indonesian bedroom as the setting. The cake symbolizes the shift from teen to adult, capturing the weight of new responsibilities. Below are my early explorations in color and ambiance.

Final Design
For the final result, we chose pastel pink and blue colors, based on the band’s aesthetic and personal preferences. The final composition portrays an abandoned room, with a messy blanket and scattered items (chair and bottle) on the floor. For the cake, we used a birthday cake with white frosting on top. If you look closely, there are also some used cigarettes added to represent adulthood. As a finishing touch, I added the 'Catwalkmotion' text in the top left corner. I kept the text small and subtle, more as a decoration than a title, so the viewers can focus on the artwork itself.

We finalized the artwork with pastel pink and blue tones to match the band’s aesthetic. The scene depicts an abandoned room, with a messy blanket, scattered items, and a white-frosted birthday cake.
